Amy Adams is honored at the Baby2Baby Gala

Amy Adams attended the 2018 Baby2Baby Gala on Saturday (November 10) in Culver City, Calif, where she was honored.

She’s a quiet philanthropist,” said Sam Taylor-Johnson of Amy Adams, who was honored at Baby2Baby Gala with its Giving Tree Award. “But Amy literally does not run from s–t.” Taylor-Johnson shared the humorous story of how she and Adams became friends; she mistakenly called Adams instead of her acupuncturist/herbalist, also named Amy, when she was suffering from an unfortunate stomach bug. Only after sharing the graphic details of her plight did she realize she was talking to Adams. “Our kids go to school together, and I was mortified when I saw her the next day, but she just gave me a big hug and asked if I was feeling better,” Taylor-Johnson said.

Adams went on to share the little-known story that she herself was once in a position where she might have become “at risk” as a young teen, and it was the charity of strangers that set her on the right path and instilled her commitment to give to others:

I don’t talk about it a lot…but when I was a young teen, I was in a position where I might become at risk,” Amy Adams said in her acceptance speech while receiving the Giving Tree Award at the Baby2Baby gala Saturday night.

You never know when an act of generosity will create a moment of great change, because I myself have been a recipient of so much generosity,” the actress said, crediting “a community of individuals” and “the generosity of strangers” with helping her get to where she is today.

In a single night, the star-studded gala raised a record breaking $4.3 million in donations — enough to fund a year’s worth of efforts by the non-profit, run solely by mothers, to provide diapers, clothing and basic necessities to children in need.

Celebrity moms were out in force at Saturday’s event, including former Giving Tree award recipients Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba, plus Olivia WildeAli WongBusy PhilippsZoe SaldanaJenna DewanJulie BowenZooey DeschanelKelly RowlandOlivia MunnLeslie MannMolly SimsLauren Conrad and Ayesha Curry, Ryan Michelle Bathe and October Gonzalez.
